We now have 80 pioneering businesses in North East England who have achieved third party sustainability certification. That’s 80 accommodation sites, attractions, restaurants and experience providers who have committed to sustainability and can demonstrate that commitment to the growing number of visitors and event organisers who are aiming to plan holidays and conferences sustainably.
Funded Green Tourism memberships
- Over the last 12 months Destination North East England has been offering fully funded Green Tourism memberships, to support any businesses yet to achieve that third party sustainability certification.
- 63 organisations have joined Green Tourism via this funded project.
- 23 of those have achieved Green Tourism certification and many more are on their way (one to be announced in the coming days).
- The Green Tourism badge is recognised around the world and the assessment process is a structured framework in which businesses can improve their sustainability - whether their passion to contribute to a greener future is new or well established within the company.
- We’re still offering free Green Tourism memberships until 30th June. It takes 5 minutes to sign up so it’s not too late if you’d like to take up the offer and join the 80 sustainability pioneers around the region.
As we come to the end of our funded memberships offer, we give a shout out to all the organisations leading the way - through Green Tourism and any other recognised third party sustainability certification.
Through their efforts in sustainable practices and the commitment they demonstrate through third party assessment, we now have a fantastic array of options for sustainability focused event planners, and when we’re planning media visits and familiarisation trips, we’re spoilt for choice with our green tourism itineraries. Environmentally and socially conscious visitors find the same.
Sustainable venues, hotels and suppliers are a key part of our sustainable events toolkit for planners in the region and those bringing their association or corporate events here. And we’ve made it easy for visitors to spot businesses with third-party sustainability certifications through badges on business listings on websites such as newcastlegateshead.com and thisisdurham.com.
